The Greener Side of TCG

GET YOUR CHILD INTERESTED IN THE 3R's!!

Part of the difficulty in becoming a Green Family is getting the children involved and making the process easy for them to understand.  Here are a few tips to help your child be more green!

  •  Make recycling fun!  In Marigold Yellow two "Super Recyclers" are chosen everyday to help take the plastics and paper recycling to the collection bin.  Simply calling their role "Super" makes the job that much more important.  Especially since superheroes are such a big influence for some children!
  • Create easy to use recycling stations.  For two or three year olds, learning to separate more than two materials could prove tricky.  Limit recycling and sorting materials to only paper and plastic to help the children begin to learn the basics.  Older children, ages 5 and up, can then begin incorporating metals and glass.
  • Design your recycling station with your child in mind!  Make a recycle monster from a box with different slots for each recyclable material or a recycle robot with different containers to help make sorting fun.  Additionally, allow your child to help design, create, paint, and decorate the recycle station to increase their interest in the program!
  • Use different resources to help your child understand the 'bigger picture'.  You Tube has some wonderful videos, especially if you search Sesame Street Aluminum Recycling or paper making.  Sesame street videos, Peep and The Inconvenient Tooth, and other excellent children's shows have some great 'being green' songs and skits to educate your child about recycling and caring for the environment.
  • Be a good role model!  If you want your child's future to be bright and green, RECYCLE!  Make it a part of your daily routine and your children are sure to follow suit!

How to Save Water in Everyday Life

Water is not an unlimited resource.  Here in Dubai we are living in a desert with little naturally available water to drink or grow food.  Even in regions abundant with water, water levels can run low when a long period of dry weather with little rain and snow continues.
Saving water is often just as easy as turning off a faucet!
These simple tips will show you what you can do at home to save water and money:

  • Don’t keep the water running while you’re brushing your teeth.
  • Don’t run water until it gets cold without collecting it; this water is ideal for pot plants and garden flowers.
  • Take shorter showers or use less bath water.  When showering, try to keep an egg timer in the bathroom to see if you can get your shower down to three minutes… while still getting clean!
  • Fix dripping faucet – it can waste as much as 50 liters of water (and plenty of dirhams!) per day.
  • Install a water saving shower head – it saves water and also reduces water heating costs, not to mention the fuel that would have been necessary to heat the extra water.  Saving fuel also prevents pollution.
  • Water the lawn or garden in the evening or early in the morning – you lose less to evaporation.

So let’s not waste our water, but use it wisely.

TCG recycling program

Children in TCG learn to reduce, recycle and reuse. Nursery children get gently introduced in our recycling program and learn how to help our environment.
At TCG we have our own recycling bins for paper, metal, glass, plastic, old mobile phones, batteries and cartridges provided by EEG (Emirates Environmental Group). Parents are most welcome to bring their garbage for recycling.
Also, garbage is being reused for creative art projects. Have a stroll through TCG and you will find plenty of beautiful art works made out of garbage.
We also encourage parents to send reusable boxes and bottles for their child’s snack and lunch.
Not only children but also teachers help to protect our environment. They will turn off the AC and lights when leaving the classrooms.

So let’s all help our environment!
