THE EGGSTRAVAGANZA
The children of Marigold Yellow and Sky Blue are going to have an EGG-cellent week of EGG-speriments!! As we dive into the eggy world of science the children are going to see what fantastic feats Ellie the Egg and Edgar the Egg can do!
Day 5:
Today we took the egg out of the vinegar (from two days ago). Our classrooms sure smells after having the jars of vinegar out for two days while the egg soaked!
The egg looked so different! The shell had gone away... and when we held the egg up to the light we could see the yolk inside and it would move if we turned the egg over. Remember, the egg is still raw! The vinegar makes the shell disappear but there's a special membrane around the egg yolk and egg white that holds everything together still. Only the shell is affected by the vinegar, everything else stays the same. For some reason our egg was a lot bigger now! And it was funny to touch. The shelled egg was hard, but the egg whose shell disappeared was smooth and squishy. Everyone had a turn to touch the egg, but Ms. Monique was nervous that someone might poke it too hard and it would burst on her!! Luckily we were all very careful.
Well, that concludes our Eggciting week of our Eggstravaganza. We had an Eggcellent time with Edgar and Ellie. Why don't you try some of these activities at home with your family?! If you want to check out some other great ideas to try with eggs just visit:

Thanks for joining us, Edgar, and Ellie!!

Today it was Marigold Yellow's turn to create a boat for Edgar. And what a perfect day for it- we're going swimming later! First we tried to decide which recycled material will work out best.

Once we equipped the boat with a little chair for Edgar we found out that it tips over once in the water! We talked about this for quite a bit and tried to come up with different solutions so that the container wouldn't slip. After Ms. Monique showed the children how well the styrofoam tray floated, Alex wanted to try putting the two floating materials together! Well done Alex, you solved the mystery of how to get the boat to stay upright!
Later we watched as Edgar sailed flawlessly across the swimming pool. Ahoy Matey, Smooth Sailing, Edgar!!
In Sky Blue we decided to give Ellie a makeover. First we drew on her with a white wax crayon. We couldn't see anything different on her, so what's the point??? Just wait and see...
We dipped Ellie in a few different colours of dye...
And here she is, what beautiful colours... AND we could see our drawings on her. Where we put wax crayon the dye wouldn't stay. Later we tried the same technique on paper and made some lovely artwork!
Marigold Yellow thought that Ellie looked smashing with her colourful makeover, but poor Edgar was still a boring little egg. So we tried giving him a spa treatment as well! First we used a wax crayon to make some markings on him.
Then we placed him in the dyes. This is where our counting skills came in handy: we had to count all the way up to 20 each time before we took Edgar out of the dye. We are perfect counters!!
Day 3 of Eggzania in Marigold Yellow and Sky Blue!!
Edgar and Ellie wanted to ask the children in Marigold Yellow and Sky Blue what would happen if they drank to much cola. To find out we placed an egg in some cola for one hour.
YUCK! Look at Edgar's friend The Egg! He turned brown... maybe this is what would happen to our teeth if we drank to much fizzy pop!
So how could we make the egg all clean and white again? The same way we keep our teeth clean! We used a toothbrush and toothpaste to scrub away the sugary pop stains.
Wow, look at how clean the egg is becoming! It's very important that we brush our teeth because we sure don't want them to look like this egg!!
There we go, the egg is white again!
For our next EGGspirement, we are going to see what happens to an egg if it sits in VINEGAR for a couple of days. First of all we all smelled the stinky vinegar! Look at some of our funny faces! :)

So here sits our egg in a bowl of vinegar. Look at how it bubbles! All day we checked on our egg and it just keeps bubbling, sometimes it even rolls around all on its' own!
We are so excited to see what will happen to the egg... let's wait until tomorrow!
Day 2:
Today Marigold Yellow created Edgar. Edgar is their new eggy friend that will help them learn a lot this week about science experiments and how things get from one shape, place, or form to another!
After pouring water into Edgar's little container, the children in Marigold Yellow tried to guess if he would sink or float. Look at how many of us thought he could float!
After we added salt to the water Edgar started to float! Just like how we can float in the ocean, or how Yamen floated in the Dead Sea during spring break!!
Today Marigold Yellow and Sky Blue also tried to figure out how to use all of these materials to make Edgar and Ellie a car. We had to figure out which containers would be safe... which ones could make wheels that roll... and how we could stick everything together!
First we drew our plan for how our car should look. The blue car was Marigold Yellow's plan and the orange car is Sky Blue's plan!
Wow, look at our egg-mobile!
We loved testing our cars on the slides outside! Our eggs were safe in their little seats because they wore their SAFETY BELTS!
Finally today, Sky Blue loved watching Ellie sail across the big ocean blue! The wind carried her swiftly across the whole length of our swimming pool and she never tipped over!
Tomorrow brings some new EGG adventures! Come back to see what we will be up to next :)
Day 1:
Meet Ellie Egg... Sky Blue's new favourite classmate! Today we wanted to teach Ellie to swim! But eggs can't swim???!!! Or can they?
First we filled a container with water.
Each child in the class took a guess if Ellie will float or sink...
Ellie SINKS!!! So, what can we do to make her float?
We started slowly adding salt by the teaspoon to see if we could get Ellie to float in salt water instead of sinking in fresh water... we tried keeping track of how many spoonfuls it took, but after counting higher than 32 we lost track!!
Ellie learnt to swim! She's floating!
Even when we pushed her down, she still pops right back to the top!
Later in the day we decided to build Ellie a boat. First we had to figure out what materials will float best, and which kind of container will hold Ellie so that she's safe.
Ellie went for a test run in a little tub of water. Her boat floats great and her sail will help her move... pack your bags Ellie, tomorrow you set sail in the pool! Let's wish her a safe journey and come back tomorrow for more Ellie adventures!
Marigold Yellow will begin their EGG-cellent Edgar the Egg adventures tomorrow as well! :)
