Danger? Look for any further danger. Make the scene safe; bring yourself and the casualty out of dangerous situations.
Response? Shout “Are you alright/ Can you hear me?” and tap child’s shoulder, pinch into ears.If the child is answering, she/he is conscious and breathing. In this case treat casualty in position found and call for HELP.
No response- shout for HELP and move on to airway.
Airway…Place child on his/her back. Open the airway by tilting the head back and lifting the chin. Place your hand on forehead and place two fingers under the chin. Remove obstructions out of mouth.
Breathing normal? Look, listen and feel for 10 seconds.
Yes? recovery position, call 999 and check for bleeding and other injuries; monitor airway and breathing; keep casualty warm.
No? Call 999 and go on with resuscitation. If you’re unsure treat as if there is no breathing.
Circulation = resuscitation
5 rescue breaths; 1 sec for each breath
30 chest compressions (100 per minute; 1/3 depth) to 2 rescue breaths
