Class of the Month June - Arabian Leopard & Ghekko
Pre-school 1 English / French
In the English class during the topic “Getting from A to B” we learned about the Transportation Timeline. We looked at the different modes of travel from walking, to riding a horse, to developing the wheel, to airplanes and the space shuttle.
We looked at force and motion and how we could make different vehicles move. Little sail boats were designed and made to move by using our breath.
Cars moved faster when we made ramps of various heights. It was clearly easier to make the cars move downhill rather than uphill.
Our pencil skills have improved tremendously and we continue to practice using whiteboards, blackboards and our exercise books.
Our reading skills are developing and we are enjoying using our phonic awareness to read simple “cvc words”.
Each day we take pleasure in looking at books. We are learning to take better care of our books.
In Math we have been doing a lot of work with patterns. Most of us can now make our own ABC patterns and enjoy the activities using this skill.
Counting backwards can be a bit tricky so we have been playing games in order to reinforce this concept.
In our classes we have several different “Imagination Boxes” which are rotated on a regular basis and we are having a lot of fun in different role-play situations.
Lego construction is a daily favourite especially with the boys.
We all enjoy playing “child friendly” software on the computer and some of us have really mastered our mouse skills.
The book “Little Cloud” by Eric Carle is being used to learn story sequencing and each of us is creating our own book.
After looking at many different vehicles we drew pictures of our favourites.
Our Ghekko class project for the Art Exhibition has been done by every child in the class and we are very proud of the outcome.
Our Leopard class project for the Art Exhibition was a 3D project which the children loved being involved in.
The Leopard class completed an abstract art piece for the Art Exhibition as well.
In the French Class during the topic “Getting from A to B” we journeyed to Medieval Times. The castle became the focus and all the Lords and Ladies of the Land resided there. One of the Princesses decided to change into a Lion.
In the French class we designed our own computer keyboards. First we decorated the outside, then we made the keyboard and then we got to play on our own computers.
